Sessions for 'Selling My Sanity' started in September of 1999, just as Jeff & his family moved back to La Grande, OR. Inspired by a dead-end job, Jeff had seven songs in the can when The Dead Ringers was formed with Nate Greer and long time collaborator Christopher Bechtel. Jeff brought three songs he had completed to one of their practices, for the other members to critique. The band ended up covering two of the songs and from there, the group began writing new songs for their self-titled debut album. While the band was touring and writing songs, Jeff shelved the project until Nate left the band on New Year's Eve in 2000 to return to the Navy. Jeff then returned to work on the 'Selling My Sanity' sessions. He also used his original recordings of 12 Gauge Therapy & Beautiful Oblivion, to show where the sessions originally began. Jeff's wife is also included in the album, along with his 3 year old twin daughters. The twins gave a haunting performance on 12 Gauge Therapy where they sang a song they learned from their Christian Pre-School. Ironically, just as the sessions were nearly completed, Jeff left his dead-end job to return to college to get his degree in Computer Science. Basically trading one 'Sanity' for another.
